Terms of Use for Bound
Last updated: August 14, 2026
Bound is distributed through the App Store and is covered by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement. The terms below add to it and describe how this particular app is meant to be used.
What Bound is
Bound blocks apps you choose on your own device and asks you questions about the book you are reading before unlocking them. It is a self-discipline tool for your own use.
What Bound is not
- It is not parental control or supervision software. It is designed for you to restrict your own device, voluntarily. Do not install or configure it on someone else's device to control them without their knowledge and consent.
- It is not a security product. The block relies on Apple's Screen Time framework and can be removed by anyone who can reach your device's Settings. Do not rely on it to keep anyone out of anything.
- It is not a medical, therapeutic, or educational service. It makes no claim to treat any condition, and the questions it asks are not an assessment of your understanding of a text.
Blocking, and being able to stop
You keep control of your device at all times. You can turn off the block from iOS Settings, or delete Bound, at any moment and without answering anything. The app also includes an emergency unlock for when the question engine or your connection fails. Do not use Bound in a situation where being briefly unable to open an app could put you or anyone else at risk; it does not block phone calls or emergency services, but you should still be aware of what you are restricting.
Questions generated by AI
Questions and grading are produced by a language model, either on your device (Apple Intelligence) or by Google Gemini using your own API key. Generated content can be wrong: a question may be poorly worded, a correct answer may be marked wrong, or a wrong answer may be accepted. Bound gives you a way to swap a question and, when the engine fails, an emergency unlock. If you use Gemini, you are responsible for your own API key, for any cost or quota associated with it, and for complying with Google's terms.
Books and content
Bound ships with works whose original texts are in the public domain, and lets you browse and download public domain titles from Project Gutenberg. You can also import EPUB files of your own. You are responsible for having the right to use any file you import. Do not use Bound to store or process material you are not entitled to.
Project Gutenberg is a registered trademark of the Project Gutenberg Literary Archive Foundation. Bound is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Project Gutenberg, Apple, or Google.
Your content
Books you import, your reading progress, and your answers are yours. They stay on your device, as described in the Privacy Policy. I claim no rights over them and I never receive them.
No warranty and limitation of liability
Bound is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. I do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the blocking will always work as intended.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of your use of, or inability to use, Bound. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Changes
These terms may be updated; the current version always lives on this page with its date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Guatemala, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights you may have under the laws of the country where you live.
